The 'Since 490BC' on the back refers to the story of an ancient Greek running messenger named Pheidippides in 490 Before Christ. He was sent to Sparta to ask for their help in fighting off the Persians at Marathon. On the third day of his 500 k round trip, most likely made on running sandals, he ran into Greek god Pan in the mountains. Half man, half goat, he was the patron god of anyone who went out into the wild. Hallucination or not, Pan made sure he made it back to Marathon safely and he ultimately helped the Greeks win the battle. They worshipped him passionately for decades after. We love the story because it all comes together there; sandals, running, our half-man half-goat mascotte, Europe made. So for us that's when Panta Sandals were born.
